We teach Nepali to children growing up outside Nepal.
The Global Education Program teaches Nepali to children growing up outside Nepal. We started in 2020 as an initiative of GBLO, and we've been running weekly online classes since. Most of our students were born abroad. They understand more Nepali than they can speak, and somewhere around fourth or fifth grade many stop trying. Parents usually notice it on a video call to Nepal, when the conversation with an aunt runs out after two minutes.
Once a week, children learn to read, write, and speak.
Class meets once a week. Children learn to read and write Devanagari, build the vocabulary they actually need, and practice speaking with other kids their age. The culture comes with it: festivals and what they're for, songs, stories, and the courtesies that don't survive translation.
So your child can talk to their grandparents.
One hour a week is all it takes to keep the language alive in your family. Children of Nepali origin learn together every week, from wherever they live in the world. No commute, no campus — just a device and a quiet corner.
